Like Fr. Patrick Peyton, Venerable Fulton Sheen, and St. John Bosco, Fr. Robert Bedard is a modern-day champion for the Catholic priesthood and Church, whose cause for canonization could soon be opened.
He is known to thousands, perhaps millions around the world affectionally as “Fr. Bob”.
The film looks at his humble beginnings as an only child growing up in Ottawa, Canada, to his very private but profound call to the priesthood.
We witness his vocation as high school teacher and basketball coach at St. Pius the 10th — one that was marked by incredible joy, but also profound tragedy. This, when a student, armed with a gun entered the room and opened fire. It was a horrific event that — in time — would galvanize his faith and the faith of his students.
We see a priest unsure of the charismatic movement to an international leader who shone the light of the Holy Spirit at conferences throughout the world and through hundreds of hours of television on the series FOOD FOR LIFE, along with multiple TV appearances.
And his most important work of all, the creation of the order he founded almost 40 years ago, “The Companions of the Cross”. This order is bursting with seminarians, priests, and even bishops who have been called by Rome to serve. They span from Houston to Halifax, from Detroit to missions in the poorest countries of the world.
We interview Fr. Bob’s past students; fellow priests of the Companions, close friends and colleagues of Fr. Bob including: Dr. Ralph Martin, Bishop Scott McCaig, Bishop Christian Riesbeck, Fr. Roger Vandenakker and Fr. Mark Goring - among others.
The film will also feature a beautiful praise and worship soundtrack, including a brand new song from the group Found Together, which was commissioned for the film: Permission.
Currently, we are raising funds to continue with the post-production phase.
The film will be released in June 2025.
